Where to Stay in Bangkok: Best Neighborhoods and What They Offer
Don’t know where to stay in Bangkok? We’ve got recommendations!
Historic temples, modern shopping districts, authentic local cuisine—you can find everything you love about Thailand in the vibrant city of Bangkok.
The capital of the Land of Smiles is indeed a treasure trove of adventure for tourists. But if you don’t know where to start, the city can seem more like a jungle. Unfortunately, if you’re only staying for a few days, you don’t have enough time to get lost.
Make the most of your trip by knowing where to stay in Bangkok out of its 50 neighborhoods.
To help you out, here are neighborhoods that I highly recommend. Each offers a unique experience.
1. Banglamphu: Gateway to Thai History
One of the top attractions in Bangkok is its majestic temples and monuments, which you can easily access when you stay in the Banglamphu area.
This neighborhood has the best of the city’s historical sights, including the Grand Palace, Wat Phra Kaew, and Wat Pho. A stone’s throw away is Wat Saket and its Golden Mount, which offers a stunning view of Rattanakosin Island.
Also nearby is the famous Khao San Road, where you can meet fellow travelers and party the night away with the locals.
For accommodation, stay at the Mad Monkey Hostel if you’re a backpacker on a budget. Meanwhile, for a more luxurious experience, book your accommodation at Casa Nithra Bangkok.
2. Ari: Chillin’ in the City
Are you looking for relaxation? Here’s where to stay in Bangkok: Ari, the chill neighborhood.
It sits on the outskirts of Bangkok, far from the noise of the busy streets. The good thing about its location is that it’s easy for you to travel back and forth to the city center. So, no worries if you want to visit tourist spots or shop at one of the big malls.
Hip cafes, laid-back coffee shops, restaurants, and art galleries also line the streets of Ari.
Moreover, it has a Chatuchak Weekend Market, a huge marketplace with over 15,000 stalls featuring fashion, food, antiques, and everything in between.
The neighborhood also has many options for affordable accommodation, including The Yard Hostel and LAF Hotel Aree. Some hotels, like The Quarter Ari by Uhg and Craftsman, have a higher price range with more amenities and excellent services.
3. Yaowarat: Thai Food Heaven
If you’re a foodie, Yaowarat is the best neighborhood to stay in Bangkok.
Although its name stands for Bangkok’s Chinatown, it’s the best place to find delicious and authentic Thai food.
From pad thai, satays, and curries to barbecued seafood and noodle soups, you can try most, if not all, Thai food in just one neighborhood.
Book at Hua Lamphong Hostel for an economically friendly stay near this food strip, or if you’ve got more to splurge, book at Hotel Royal Bangkok and Shanghai Mansion Bangkok.
4. Pratunam: Shopping Paradise
Here at Pratunam, the best thing to do is shop till you drop. With shops open 24/7, it’s packed with locals and tourists alike.
You can buy clothes and accessories at wholesale prices. They even have gadgets, shoes, bags, handicrafts, and souvenirs—name it, they have it.
For a refreshing break amidst your shopping spree, stop by Baiyoke Tower and marvel at Bangkok’s breathtaking panorama. You can even see as far as the Gulf of Thailand.
Meanwhile, some of Pratunam’s most recommended hotels include Good Day Hostel, The Quarter Bangkok Ratchathewi, and The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam.
